What does it actually look like to be transformed?

In this new series, we’ll walk through Romans 12 and explore how God reshapes our lives from the inside out. This is not about behavior modification. It’s about a renewed mind, a surrendered life, and a community that reflects the heart of Jesus in everyday ways.

Week by week, we’ll move through the chapter together—looking at what it means to offer ourselves to God, live with humility, use our gifts, love genuinely, and respond to the world in a radically different way.

Join us as we discover the kind of transformation that is not just personal, but communal and visible in how we live.

Elder Orphan Care was birthed with our partnership with Viorel and Florica who were then caring for "only" 64 older adults! Since then the Pascas have rescued nearly 3000 older adults in Romania who would otherwise be homeless and currently care for over 400. Over the years and thanks to our generous donors EOC was able to help fund the construction of two care homes, housing for volunteers and a multipurpose building. But far beyond that our teams built hundreds of treasured relationships with the people in those buildings as we visited each and every individual and shared both presents and our presence with them. EOC partnered with the Pascas for 13 year, through 2024.

In 2017 we felt compelled to "look in our own backyard" and under the direction of Tammy Blackburn, former EOC board member turned staff person, we began caring for older adults in need in our home area of Cabarrus and Rowan counties in North Carolina who wish to age in their own homes. We enjoy partnering with other local senior-serving organizations to provide help and hope in a variety of ways to our older neighbors.

Many people believe that following Jesus means attending church, doing the right things, not doing the wrong things and knowing the right stuff. But what if it’s so much more than that? At One Life we’re convinced it’s not that people don’t want to become like Jesus, or that people aren’t trying to become like Jesus. It’s that we don’t know how to become like Jesus. It was Jesus’ prayer book. It’s been the churches prayer book for two millennia. And it can be our prayer book today. The Psalms don’t teach us to prayer nice, neat, sugar coated prayers. Instead, they give us permission to be honest, raw, and vulnerable in our prayers. This summer we will walk through the Psalms, allowing them to guide our prayer life and trusting that God meets us right where we are.

It's the time when we prepare ourselves to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. As we face our own sinfulness, the question is, what kind of God do we believe we will experience in our most fractured places? If we look at the God that is revealed in the person of Jesus, here is what we find: The hands of this God are not hurling thunderbolts from heaven like Zeus of the Greek pantheon. The hands of this God have been stretched out in love where they were nailed to a tree. The nail-pierced hands of this God now reach out in love to every doubter, every sufferer, and to every wanderer. The hands of the God that is revealed in the person of Jesus are not hands of wrath but hands of mercy, forgiveness, and unending grace.

Why do we do what we do? It’s so important that we as a church ask this question. It helps us stay focused on the vision that God has given us, it brings clarity in every season and it unifies our hearts as we walk together as a church family. Every Sunday morning we gather together. It’s a beautiful thing for the church to be together each week. But have you ever stopped to ask, why do we do what we do on Sunday mornings? At One Life we gather on Sundays in order to practice spiritual rhythms in community so that we can practice them in our everyday lives. We don’t randomly “do stuff” on Sunday mornings. We are intentional. We have a common liturgy. We practice spiritual rhythms together in hopes that each of us will practice them throughout the week. Over the next 7 weeks we will explore the spiritual rhythms that we practice together each Sunday so that we can know why we do what we do.

For centuries Christians have observed Lent as the 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday.
